Makalu Base Camp Trek 18 Days is a hidden gem located between the mighty Mt Everest and Kanchenjunga region in the barely traveled east of Nepal. This trek is a great opportunity for adventure trekkers who are willing to go away from crowded trails and explore Nepal’s most beautiful Makalu Barun National Park – the heart of Mt Maklau (8485m)- world’s 5th highest mountain.
Makalu Base Camp Trek begins with a scenic flight to a small air strip in Tumlingtar followed by a jeep drive to the village of Num. Initially, we will be trekking through terraced farmlands, lush rhododendron forests, picturesque villages in the lower Barun Valley. After crossing the Shipton La Pass (4210m), we arrive in the upper Barun Valley where our trek continues through the alpine landscape, yak pastures and glaciers all the way to the Makalu Base Camp. The flora, fauna and endangered animals like the Red Panda makes this destination a paradise for plants and animals enthusiasts. Trekking to Makalu Base Camp is a true off the beaten track experience. Only a hand-full of trekkers venture out to this remote Makalu Region. This trek is quiet challenging and requires a good fitness level because of the rugged terrian and high passes in between. During our Makalu Base Camp trek, we will be spending our nights in small family run tea houses while getting an insight of local culture. Really quiet trails, small villages, lush forests, high passes, rare flora and fauna, amazing views of Himalayan ranges and an off the beaten path trekking experience are some of the many highlights of Makalu Base Camp Trek.
